I just want to put this here for the defeatists who don’t even bother to read the article before commenting:

“When I see people kidnapped by ICE, that affects me, because I know what it’s like to be kidnapped by federal agents,” he says. “It affects me physically, like a burning feeling in my stomach.” He worries about the potential impact on his family, but the price of inaction feels steeper. “My kids are teenagers now. I want to be that example to them that despite threats of retaliation and violence, you’ve still got to stand up and fight back.”

Does Austin find it ironic that the scenarios he worries about so closely mirror what already sent him to federal prison? “Yeah, it brings back a lot of memories,” he says. “When I see them saying, ‘If you track or criticize ICE agents, you’re a domestic terrorist,’ that was the same sentiment when they came after me with RaisetheFist.”

“I’m not looking to get arrested,” he says, nodding toward his front door. “I’m not looking for conflict, but I know conflict is inevitable. To me, what’s more important is being in a fight and using my skill set to contribute something to that fight. Then whatever is going to happen, it’s going to happen.”

This man has been an activist since he was 18. He’s been shot by police, monitored, interrogated, put in solitary confinement by the FBI and ultimately thrown the book at for a bogus charge and served a year in jail. He has a family and things to lose, and he’s struggling financially to keep this site up. And he still fights.

If you’re going to be sitting on your couch afraid to do anything, I’m not judging you, but don’t come here and try to persuade others that the fight is already over and we lost.

How would anyone believe that anything the constitution says would protect them when the sitting turd in chief uses it to wipe his ass? Trump admin couldn’t care less about the constitution. And it has no consequences.

You’re not wrong, but this man has already clearly accepted that things may go wrong one day. He’s decided that taking a stand is still worth the effort. And since we know there will be a smear campaign, posting what he’s doing alongside a reminder that his efforts are legal may at least slow down that campaign.

Because we still live in a country with rules. You’re on this site, you must see the headlines daily that read “judge blocks trump…”

If we don’t believe in the rule of law at all then we are truly lost. Attitudes like the one you described above are getting us nowhere.

For the record, I concur with you 100%. But to play devil’s advocate here, it seems like those who are meant to uphold the laws have forgotten why they existed in the first place, and likely won’t even comprehend them unless they or someone they know experience first hand the injustice of others disregarding those laws.

Basically, maybe they need to be reminded why rules matter.

I don’t disagree with that at all. In fact as a population I think we need to police ourselves. We should take stronger action towards those in power, as we are the much larger power. I’m just tired of the defeatist attitude. Someone has to enforce the actual rules.

I agree, of course one must hope that the righteous way will prevail- but to assume ICE won’t kick down his door and shoot him illegally because he’s protected by the constitution and obviously he is doing the right thing - but it’s a bold assumption nonetheless imo :) I’m cheering him on! Fuck ICE and Trump admin! :3

It wouldn’t be the first time the law protected those it ought to be punishing. That is essentially the basis of our capitalist system.
